The new Poulsbo breakwater, including moorage slips, is expected to be available to visiting boaters by mid- to late-September, 2023. The newly installed breakwater is currently awaiting the arrival of finger piers for the creation of 47 moorage slips. The new facility will include (22) 50-foot slips and (25) 30-foot slips along the inside of the breakwater. Vessels up to 75 feet can tie up on the outside of the breakwater.

Amenities will include potable water, power pedestals, lighting, and safety ladders. Public access to the new breakwater is via an 8-foot-wide connection piece. Finger piers for the slips are expected to arrive early September. Once the finger piers are installed, the breakwater will be open to the boating public sometime in September. Security upgrades and a floating restroom are planned as future enhancements.

Existing guest moorage slips located closer to shore remain open and available throughout the construction activities. The nearly completed new breakwater is great news for boaters and is a welcome replacement of the 59-year-old previous breakwater, which has been removed. The project was made possible with grants from RCO (Recreation and Conservation Office) of the State of Washington, along with concrete floats donated to the project by Elliott Bay Marina.

Poulsbo Marina in Liberty Bay has long been a favorite destination in Puget Sound for its shops, eateries, bakeries, and prominent Norwegian heritage. Poulsbo is a great place to visit any time of year and hosts special events like the Viking Fest in May, the Scandinavian Midsommer Fest in June, the Wine & Whiskers Wine Tour in August, and the Yulefest in December, to name a few. Poulsbo Marina is open daily, except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. See the Port of Poulsbo website for online reservations or call ahead.
