BC Hydro is replacing the 138 kilovolt (KV) power lines that cross Jervis Inlet and Agamemnon Channel. The power lines are at high risk of failure due to age and ocean spray corrosion per BC Hydro. These power lines will be restrung and upgraded to 230 KV standards said BC Hydro spokesperson Mary Anne Coules.

Removal of the transmission line across Jervis Inlet and the aviation marker balls is scheduled for Tuesday, October 14, to Friday, October 17. Contingency dates are from Saturday, October 18, to Sunday, October 26. All marine traffic through Jervis Inlet will be closed from 8 am to 6 pm daily while overhead power line removal work is underway. Boaters wanting to access the northern section of Jervis Inlet will need to take the alternate route along Agamemnon Channel on the east side of Nelson Island. BC Ferries will also reroute their sailings around Nelson Island. The Sunshine Coast Trail will be affected by this closure with an alternate route available at all times.

Pilot boats will be stationed on both sides of the marine crossing in Jervis Inlet to alert boaters who may not be aware of the closure.

Removal of the transmission lines across Agamemnon Channel will take place in Spring 2026. In Spring 2027, restringing of the line across Jervis Inlet is planned to begin. BC Hydro will continue to provide regular updates on these projects. For marine traffic closure information, click HERE or contact Mary Anne Coules at maryanne.coules@bchydro.com
