The ‘Namgis Nation, on Cormorant Island in Alert Bay (Broughton Region), now has a beautiful new office building for their staff and service providers thanks to a joint project with “Renewal Development.”
The mission of Renewal Development is to rescue structurally-sound homes and buildings scheduled for demolition that can be refurbished and modernized, then relocated to communities in need.

The ‘Namgis Nation has been in need of office space and Renewal Development has helped provide an affordable community solution. A 2,580-square-foot show home, lightly used as office space, was selected, refurbished, and moved by barge from mainland Delta, BC and delivered at Alert Bay in early December. The goal of the project was to repurpose the show home instead of demolishing it and sending pieces to the landfill.
The project serves as the first of potentially many more rescued, retrofitted, and relocated homes for the ‘Namgis community.
