The official closing of the sale of historic Rosario Resort on Orcas Island is set for February 29, 2024. The Barto family of Anacortes listed the 82-acre property for sale in March 2023. In preparation for the sale transaction, operations at the Mansion will be temporarily suspended starting Monday, February 19. The new owner, a resident of Orcas Island, plans substantial upgrades to the resort, beginning with the Moran Mansion. Overnight lodging at the Mansion will be closed from February 20 through March 31st. Lodging reservations starting April 1 and beyond will be honored. The Mansion Restaurant, Lounge, Spa, and Museum will remain closed during renovations. Go to rosarioresort.com for the current status on closures and opening dates.
Boaters can still make reservations for moorage at the marina and enjoy the grounds and family pool. There are 8 mooring buoys, which are first-come, first-served for boats 50 feet and under. Slip reservations are available online, or phone 360-376-2152. Moorage rates include power, water, and the use of the resort’s restrooms and showers.
Rosario Resort has long been a special destination for boaters and islanders alike, who anticipate the sale to be a positive step. The Moran Mansion was built between 1906-1909 by Seattle Shipbuilder and Mayor Robert Moran. The mansion houses original furnishings, fixtures, and an extensive display of the ships built by the Moran Brothers Company. Design and construction of the mansion was inspired by Moran’s shipbuilding background as evidenced by the heavy doors, hardware, and mahogany paneling. The Olmsted Brothers, the leading landscape architects of the time, designed the grounds surrounding the mansion.
