Come experience the Pacific Northwest’s largest tropical reef ecosystem with three new immersive habitats at the new Ocean Pavilion, opening August 29, 2024, at the Seattle Aquarium. Come face-to-face with 3,500 extraordinary animals, plants, and nearly 30 species of coral.
The Ocean Pavilion tells the story about Earth’s one ocean through digital storytelling, helping to deepen the understanding that all waters are connected. Come visit this vibrant underwater world at the Seattle Aquarium teeming with life, including sharks, rays, schooling fish, and mangroves. The multi-story, underwater canyon of the new Reef display allows for multiple viewpoints – above, below, and across. Visitors can learn more through the Aquarium’s scheduled talks and presentations. The Seattle Aquarium on the waterfront (1483 Alaskan Way, Pier 59) is open daily from 9:30 am to 6 pm; last entry is at 5 pm. The new Overlook Walk that will connect Pike Place Market with Seattle’s waterfront and the Aquarium is expected to be completed by late 2024. Overlook Walk will eliminate the need to walk across busy Alaskan Way and will include landscaping, public spaces, and informal play areas.
Continued development of Seattle’s Waterfront Park will open in phases through to completion early next year, 2025. Visitors will see a marked difference in public safety thanks to funding from the Seattle Park District, Friends of Waterfront Park, and the City of Seattle for regular checks by uniformed officers from ESU (Emergency Services Unit). Seattle Center Director Marshall Foster has noted that a large public presence is an important boost for the recovery of downtown, which is now focused on culture and art in public spaces. Waterfront Park is open and staffed from 7 am to 10 pm during the peak season and from 10 am to 6 pm in the off-season.
