The 48-foot sailing vessel One Ocean was hauled out on September 24 by Seattle Yachts in Anacortes, its rigging decommissioned by Northwest Rigging for transport, and subsequently moved to the Marine Technology Center by North Harbor Diesel, where she will undergo preparations for her voyage Around the Americas.
Mike Beemer, Marine Dept. Head with Skagit Valley College, and his crew of technicians will be readying One Ocean for its 14-month circumnavigation of the Americas, including rebuilding the engine’s gearbox, installing a new generator, a bow thruster, and working on major upgrades to the electrical systems. Work will also be done to outfit the vessel with scientific equipment. Be sure to stay tuned to learn about these projects published in future articles.
Captain Mark Schrader, Jennifer Dalton Project Director, and crew members, including Mike Beemer, will be departing Anacortes in May 2025 for their circumnavigation of the Americas, which includes scientific studies from pole to pole. Colleges, non-profit organizations, science organizations, and boating industry businesses are providing support for the Around the Americas Program.

Seattle Yachts sponsored the haulout for One Ocean and the crane to remove the masts and rigging. Seattle Yachts specializes in the sale of trawlers, sailboats, and cruising yachts for the adventuresome mariner. Seattle Yachts has 9 locations around the country, including Anacortes Washington, Seattle Washington, and Victoria British Columbia. Other locations include those in California, Florida, and Annapolis Maryland. Boat sales include a variety of vessel manufacturers from which to choose to help boaters find that perfect match.

Northwest Rigging sponsored the removal of all the rigging and the two masts in preparation for transport, all carefully and expertly done in two hours despite the cold, heavy rain on September 25. Northwest Rigging in Anacortes provides onboard installations and service, aloft work, and hardware upgrades. They are experts at rig commissioning and decommissioning. They can refit sailing yachts and provide custom splicing too! Northwest Rigging has been helping sailors for over 30 years.
North Harbor Diesel sponsored the transport of One Ocean from the boatyard to the Marine Tech Center (part of Skagit Valley College) in Anacortes, located several blocks from the boatyard at Seattle Yachts. North Harbor Diesel offers boatyard services, including fiberglass repairs, mechanical and electrical work, and general maintenance work. The public can purchase hose clamps and other items from their onsite shop.

Pacific Marine Center provided support by allowing passage through their property, which avoided having to transport One Ocean through additional roadway traffic. Pacific Marine Center is a full-service boatyard with a huge refit building. Services include mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, testing, and sales services.
