The Exploring Series of guidebooks for boaters authored by Don Douglass & Reanne Hemingway-Douglass are being painstakingly updated by Leonard & Lorena Landon, Managing Editors of the Waggoner Cruising Guide. They have taken great care in preserving the character and voice of the late Don Douglass and late Reanne Douglass, while updating marina information and significant changes at bear viewing sites and anchorages where needed.
Don and Reanne are known for their in-depth descriptions of anchorages along the Pacific Coast from Mexico through Southeast Alaska. They spent 7-8 years ducking into every possible anchorage, systematically studying and documenting the features of each location, including the sea bottom for holding. The Waggoner Guide and the Exploring guides each present a unique perspective, and taken together, provide all the information needed for a safe and enjoyable boating experience. Though Don many times pushed the envelope, he provided the inspiration for many boaters to venture outside their comfort zone and discover new skills.
The new updated 4th Edition of Exploring Southeast Alaska is hot off the presses; books have been shipped and are expected to arrive at the Waggoner Office in Anacortes, Washington late March or early April. The revised 4th Edition of Exploring the South Coast of British Columbia, also updated by the Landons, are currently available at the Waggoner Office.
