Exploring North Coast B.C. – New 4th Edition

If you’re planning to spend time cruising north of Vancouver Island this year, you will want to carry a copy of the recently updated 4^th Edition of the Douglass’ guidebook, Exploring the North Coast of British Columbia, a guidebook that covers many of the anchorages for this extensive cruising area.

The popular Exploring Series guidebooks, written by the late Don Douglass and the late Reanne Hemingway-Douglass, are used by serious boaters looking for numerous anchoring options between major destinations. These valued resources are published by Fine Edge nautical publishing, along with the Waggoner Cruising Guide.

The 4^th Edition of Exploring the North Coast of British Columbia has been revised/updated by the editors of the Waggoner Cruising Guide, Leonard and Lorena Landon. Information on marinas, marine parks, and select destinations have been revised where applicable, while maintaining the writing style and character of the original series. Information about permits required at wildlife viewing areas is now included, along with the latest changes at destinations such as Butedale, Pruth Bay, Klemtu, Cow Bay Marina, and Haida Gwaii. The text narrative regarding charts has been updated to reflect the recent changes in CHS charting. Anchorages have been updated as known and where needed. Maps in the page layout have been positioned next to the related text for easy reference. Most of the personal sidebar stories and photos by the Douglasses have been retained to maintain the character of the guidebook, with new photos added where sites have changed significantly.

The Douglass’ Exploring Series of nautical guidebooks remain a valuable resource for boaters who love discovering Northwest remote destinations and quiet anchorages. It should be noted that not all anchorages were visited for this 4^th edition. We would like to thank Waggoner volunteer field correspondents who submitted contributions to this 4^th edition of Exploring the North Coast of British Columbia.
