The Core Plus Program provides high-school students across Washington State hands-on learning and transferable skills for career pathways in aerospace, construction, and the maritime industries. Students in K-12 classrooms are connected to future employers in the trades through completion of a Core Plus program and certification. In the marine sector, students spend 1-3 hours a day working on boats, learning safety, tool usage, fabrication and welding.

Teacher accompanied classes is the event’s key audience. The event is also open to home-schooled individuals through permission. Teachers bring interested students to the Try-A-Trade Event to explore careers through hands-on-activities and learn from industry experts. Most participating employers have entry-level careers with on-the-job training opportunities. Employers know the students still need to finish school. Teachers need to register their classroom students to attend by going HERE.  Space at the event is limited to 800 students. Middle-school students participating in the STEM program and home-schooled students should contact Tory Gering at tory@seattleindustry.org to discuss if interested in attending the event.
