The Exploring Guidebook Series, created by the late Don Douglass and the late Reanne Hemingway-Douglass team, are well known and respected guidebooks among serious cruisers.
Whether you’re planning a journey south or north on your own along the West Coast or joining a group like the Coho Ho Ho or Baja Ha Ha for an adventure of a lifetime, Exploring the Pacific Coast, San Diego to Seattle is a must have resource, there is no other guidebook like it! Boaters traveling north with plans to continue to Alaska, or those heading south to San Diego, will need this Pacific Coast guidebook covering the coasts of California, Oregon, and Washington, including the Channel Islands, Monterey Bay, San Francisco Bay, lower Columbia River, and Puget Sound.
After updating the Douglass’ South Coast and North Coast of British Columbia guidebooks, as well as the Douglass’ Southeast Alaska guidebook, now coastal sailors and cruisers have the latest information for the Pacific Coast covering the waters from Seattle to San Diego. Leonard and Lorena Landon, editors with Waggoner, once again have lovingly and carefully updated this one-of-a-kind guidebook for the West Coast of the U.S.
The new Updated and Revised 3rd Edition of Exploring the Pacific Coast includes the latest resources and information for river bar crossings, the latest Coast Pilot information, updated marina guest moorage information, and updated reference maps and dock diagrams as needed. While the Landons did not visit every anchorage, waypoints and aids to navigation were reviewed and edited where required. Additional information, including customs and pilotage requirements for foreign-flagged vessels, has been added. In this latest edition of Exploring the Pacific Coast, coastal cruisers will find 500+ marinas and anchorage sites, 1,000 tested GPS waypoints, and proven cruising routes.
The Landon’s have spent considerable time researching the many marinas up and down the coast and have previously taken their own vessel from Seattle to Mexico, including a return trip back to Washington State aboard their vessel m/v Got d’ Fever. The Landons wish to thank those who helped review this 3rd edition, including Ann Kinner of Seabreeze Books & Charts in San Diego, and Dave Ryan of Marquis Charters in San Francisco.
In the years since the previous edition, much has changed, including river bar channels, aids to navigation, and sources for bar conditions. Boaters will no doubt want to replace their old copy with the latest 2026 Edition, which will help them find their way along the West Coast with the correct information.
Books are expected to arrive at the Waggoner Office in Anacortes, WA in early July. For pre-orders and purchases of Exploring the Pacific Coast San Diego to Seattle 3rd Edition, go to www.waggonerbooks.com
