Desolation Sound Marine Park remains a mainstay boater destination and the namesake for this region, with ample cozy anchorages backed by dramatic mountain peaks. Nearby Refuge Cove on West Redonda Island and Squirrel Cove and Gorge Harbour on Cortes Island afford summer supplies for boaters. The Discovery Passage area is a labyrinth of islands and scenic passages, with numerous bays and anchorage opportunities. Toba Wilderness Marina serves as a base for the Toba Inlet area. The city of Campbell River on Vancouver Island is a major reprovisioning stop. Octopus Islands and Small Inlet to the north offer trails and more anchorage opportunities.
