Boat Show University once again comes to the Seattle Boat Show sponsored by by Boaters Insurance with new advanced classes. Each year new classes and instructors are added to the program to improve your safety and enjoyment on the water. 
 
Boating maintenance expert Nigel Calder will be teaching all day classes on Diesel and Electrical Troubleshooting. Local weather expert and briefer, Bruce Hedrick, will over an all day weather class sharing his secrets on how to interpret the weather. Two accomplished Harborview emergency nurses and live aboard cruisers will share their practical information on how the captain can provide medical assistance in case of an emergency and even more practical problems like sea sickness, sunburns and bee stings that can impact a cruise. Waggoner Cruising Guide Editors Mark Bunzel and Leonard and Lorena Landon provide information on planning your cruise in the San Juan Islands and up the Inside Passage to Southeast Alaska. The Boat Doctor, Mike Beemer, will present additional courses on troubleshooting and adding the right gear to your boat. Additional courses run from Anchoring and Docking to working with Canvas. Women’s Day on Monday, January 27th, will feature Captains Linda Lewis and Margaret Pommert presenting their popular course 101 Practical Tips for Safe and Fun Cruising – just for women.

Cruising the Inside Passage to Alaska Seminar 2020 (dates TBD)

Time: 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Tuition: $225 per person or 2 for $395

This three-day seminar covers all the information you need to cruise to Southeast Alaska, including exploring Northern British Columbia, Haida Gwaii, and the West Coast of Vancouver Island. Topics include routes to and from Southeast Alaska, customs clearances, weather and tidal challenges, favorite destinations, permit processes for protected areas, getting parts and crew delivered to remote areas, and much more.

Cruising to Desolation Sound and the Broughtons Seminar 2020 (TBA)

Time: 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Location: Marine Tech Center, 1606 R Ave, Anacortes, WA 98221

Tuition: $150 per person or 2 for $250

Instructors: Mark Bunzel, Mike Beemer, Lynette Brower

Spend a day learning about some of the most magical and easily accessible cruising in our area! Longtime experts will teach you about clearing Canadian Customs, navigating through the Gulf Islands, selecting a weather window to cross the Strait of Georgia, where to go in Desolation Sound, how to anchor and stern tie, provisional, and much more. The seminar will include information on cruising to Princess Louisa Inlet and transiting Malibu Rapids and the Upper and Lower Rapids in Okisollo Channel. We will provide you with round-trip planning to help maximize your time on the water.
