Waggoner readers may recall that the Ladysmith Maritime Society, who previously operated the Ladysmith Community Marina in Ladysmith BC, was required to vacate the marina in February 2024, due to the water lot lease transfer to the Stz’uminus First Nations per a Reconciliation Agreement with the Province of BC.

Subsequently, the Ladysmith Maritime Society was tasked with finding a new home for the Society’s Heritage Boat Fleet, Sea Life Centre, and their Ladysmith Museum exhibits. We are pleased to report that LMS has partnered with Telegraph Harbour Marina and the Thetis Island Nature Conservancy to provide access for the Society’s Sea Life Centre. Kim Loveridge headed the effort to move the Sea Life Centre and helped put in place the mutual agreements. The Centre will be staffed by students throughout the summer months and programs provided as scheduled at Telegraph Harbour Marina. You will find some LMS heritage boats at the marina too. LMS celebrated the move with a grand opening on May 24, 2025.

The Ladysmith Museum (250-245-0423) in the town of Ladysmith, BC is the temporary home for the Society’s exhibits, located at 721 1st Avenue. LMS will be celebrating the Society’s 40th Birthday on June 14, commemorating 40 years of serving the community with maritime heritage, marine life education, and events. Everyone is invited. Come have cake with LMS at the Museum in Ladysmith. Enjoy the exhibits and live music between Noon and 3:00 pm. Cake cutting will take place around 1:00 pm. Regular hours of the Museum are from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturdays.
