Le Boat, a canal boat rental business, has added a second base on the Rideau Canal, available starting this 2023 season. The new satellite base is located at Dows Lake Pavilion in Canada’s Capital, Ottawa with four dedicated slips and a reception booth to welcome Le Boat guests. Le Boat is also adding two new Horizon Plus Cruisers to their fleet of canal boats this season.
The new satellite base was added in response to demand from Le Boat’s customers/guests to include a more convenient one-way trip to Ottawa from Le Boat’s home base at Smith Falls, Ontario. Smith Falls is located near mid-point along the Rideau Canal that runs 202 kilometers (approx. 126 miles) and links the Ottawa River in the north with the Saint Lawrence River at Kingston, Ontario in the south. Quaint towns and interesting sights along the way are connected by a set of lakes and canals.
The Rideau Canal, built in the mid-1800’s, is a UNESCO World-Heritage Site, with 47 locks. Construction began in 1826 and took six years to complete the canal through rough wilderness bush, swamps, and rock terrain. The canal was originally intended as a military supply route between Ottawa and Kingston in the event of an American invasion of Canada.
Today, the Rideau Canal is enjoyed by pleasure boaters, including those using Le Boat rentals. Le Boat, a leader in boat rental vacations in Europe, established services on the Rideau Canal in 2018.
