Waggoner Guide Flotilla Day 12

Shearwater Marine & Resort

Day 12 – Thursday

Small improvements continue at the resort. The menu in the pub has been updated. The stores continue to evolve with a remodel and expansion of the grocery store. There is a new fitness center located amongst the shops, The store “Hodge Podge” continues to add more in addition to an espresso bar, bakery, ice cream, and gifts. It is worth noting that they carry a number of electronics items for smartphones and computers as well as a small appliance. Need a new Kitchen-Aid mixer – they have it. They also have gift items. It is a surprising stock for a for a small store in a remote location. And, it is too close to the laundry where you have time between loads.

The chandlery is well stocked and had the air pump we needed for our dinghy.

Shearwater Marine has a Robinson 4-place helicopter on site for charter flying. It is $50 per person for a quick aerial tour of the island. Want to take the helicopter to the Bella Bella airport to catch a flight on Pacific Coastal to Vancouver? $40.

The garbage and recycling are now located at the end of the building, near the boatyard. There is a small charge for garbage and recycling is free. It is worth noting that the recycling is taken down to a center in Richmond, B.C. Your garbage fees are used to offset this cost for responsible disposal.

Our group dined in the pub and the food was very good. We had the added benefit of having Shearwater Resort and Shearwater Marine Group chairman, Craig Winston stop by to talk to the group about the history of Shearwater and his families involvement to build it to what it is today.
