On November 9th, the large lock is scheduled to be closed to marine traffic from 6 a.m. through November 24 until 4 p.m. for annual maintenance. The small lock will be available to vessels up to 120 feet long and 26 feet wide during the large lock closure period. Government, commercial, and emergency vessels have priority. Procedures for transiting the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks in Ballard are described in the Waggoner Cruising Guide in the South/Central Puget Sound chapter.
About The Author
Lorena and Leonard Landon have been plying Pacific Northwest waters for over 35 years. After extensive boating that ranged from Olympia through Southeast Alaska and west to Haida Gwaii, the Landons have extended their experience while cruising the West Coast to Baja and mainland Mexico, returning to Washington State after accomplishing “the bash” northward. They have had the opportunity to operate boats of varying sizes, speed, and configurations, providing them with a wide range of boat-handling experience. After living for seven years aboard their 46-foot DeFever, they have chosen Anacortes as their new home.
