After a three-year hiatus due to Covid, the much-loved Seattle Seafair Weekend is back and promises to be bigger and better than ever. Seafair Weekend is a festival of festivals, culminating the summer-long Seafair celebrations for a grand weekend that highlights hydroplane races, performances by the Blue Angels, and the Boeing Air Show.

Set on Lake Washington south of the I90 Bridge, boaters can enjoy the Blue Angles and Boeing Air Show soaring overhead, performing impressive aerobatics. Boaters who have paid to tie-up to the Log Boom have a front-row seat for all the hydroplane races that roar by, including Miss HomeStreet racing at over 220 mph in the HomeStreet Bank Cup. Air Show performers include the U.S. Navy Blue Angels Super Hornets, Fat Albert (C-130 Hercules), and the Growler F18. Additional shows include the U.S. Air Force F35 Lightning II Demonstration Team, the U.S. Army Golden Knights (parachute team), and the U.S. Coast Guard Search and Rescue demonstrations.

Boaters are reminded that special restrictions and local regulations have been established to promote the safety of these events, and will be enforced by federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Children 12 years and younger must wear U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets on vessels shorter than 19 feet when the vessel is underway, and on larger vessels when on an open deck or cockpit while underway. PFDs must always be readily accessible for every person aboard. All skippers born after January 1, 1955, must have and carry onboard a valid Boaters Education Card. Boaters are reminded not to “drink and drive” – the maximum allowable blood alcohol content is less than .08%. The I-90 Bridge for auto traffic will remain open during the celebrations and navigable ends of the bridge will be open to vessels.

Seafair Weekend runs Friday, August 5th through Sunday, August 7th from 9 am to 5 pm, with hydroplane races and air shows each day as scheduled. For a detailed schedule of events, go to seafair.org.
