Washington State Department of Transportation and the U.S. Coast Guard Notice to Mariners has announced that the Montlake Bridge will only be operating a single bridge span in order to facilitate roadway deck repairs. Montlake Bridge will operate in single leaf mode rather than the standard double leaf mode beginning Friday, April 22, continuing through the weekend and ending on Monday, April 25 at 5 a.m.; repairs are dependent on weather conditions. If work is suspended, backup dates are planned for mid-May and early June.

The Montlake Bridge in the closed-to-navigation position provides 30 feet of vertical clearance throughout the navigation channel, and 46 feet of vertical clearance in the center. Boats may need to que up for safe passage under the bridge due to the reduced width during a single span opening. Bridge clearances are referenced to the Mean Water Level of Lake Washington.

Vessels able to pass through the Montlake Bridge in the closed-to-navigation position may do so at any time. The Bridge will not be able to provide a full opening for emergencies. Vessels requiring a double leaf/full opening to navigate through, must contact the bridge operator at least 24 hours in advance at (206) 720-3048 or via VHF Ch13.
