Due to the weight from snow followed by rain in February of 2021, a roof structure for a multi-slip boat house at Jensen’s Marina in the San Juan Islands collapsed in a domino fashion around 2 p.m. on February 14th. Thankfully no one was injured by the incident, but eight boats were pinned under the collapsed roof.

Jensen’s Marina is owned by the Port of Friday Harbor and is located on the southeast end of the Harbor. The marina offers permanent moorage and is home to Albert Jensen & Sons Shipyard, a full-service boatyard. The Port of Friday Harbor has restricted all access to Jensen’s Marina until such time it is deemed safe.

Emergency permits for demolition and recovery have been obtained, and the Port has contracted with a construction company to rebuild the floats. Structural-engineers will further assess any damage to the pilings and finger piers. Work will be ongoing through March. Construction of a new roof structure is yet to be determined.

Tenants and other concerned boaters can contact the Port Office at (360) 378-2688. For shipyard questions, contact Jensen’s Shipyard at (360) 378-4343.
