Everett Marina is being transformed from the previous image of single-story buildings and sheds to modern restaurants, offices, classy accommodations, and lovely plazas, rapidly becoming a first-class destination. Everett is the largest public marina on the West Coast with 2,300 slips and 10 guest docks for a total of 5,000-feet of lineal guest moorage, plus a 13-lane boat launch. The Marine Craftsman District offers haulout, a 72-stall boatyard and related services. The latest improvements at the Marina and on-going plans for immediate future development translates to exciting new amenities for boaters.
Current Construction at Everett Marina
Perhaps you have noticed major development going on at Everett Marina, including two new retail buildings with offices and restaurants, part of the first phase of the Port’s 65-acre Waterfront Place mixed-use development plan. The Pacific Rim Plaza and splash fountain are a welcome addition, along with the 266-unit Waterfront Place Apartments and new Hotel Indigo, all connected by an esplanade and public spaces. The second apartment building, The Carling, will be welcoming new residents this spring and is actively pre-leasing apartment homes. Apartment homes are located in the heart of Waterfront Place in Fisherman’s Harbor near restaurants and retail shops.
If you visited Everett Marina over the winter months, you had the opportunity to enjoy the annual 35-foot illuminated “frozen fountain” sculpture at the Pacific Rim Plaza and the annual ice rink in front of the Jetty Bar & Grille. A skybridge over Hwy 529 which leads to a small park and overlook, is also a favorite, offering expansive views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.
Monkey Fist Market, offering convenience groceries and nautical gifts, is now available to boaters and is found along West Marine View Drive. Boaters can look forward to a new 500-foot Fuel Dock, which is being configured to accommodate larger vessels to be located east of the current fuel dock; construction is planned to begin in 2022. The existing fuel dock will stay open until the new facility is completed, then the old site demolished and removed. The existing fuel dock location near “Central A Dock” presents a docking challenge during strong currents.
New restroom facilities near the boat launch are under construction and are slated to be completed in spring 2022. Sani-cans will be available on site until the new restroom facility is completed. Don’t forget to visit nearby Jetty Island to enjoy the wildlife and sandy beaches, accessed by small craft or the Jetty Island Ferry during Jetty Island Days (July 5 – Labor Day).
The second phase of development for Waterfront Place is the Millwright District area, which includes Port Gardner Landing, a planned development of two buildings to house the future Woods Coffee, with remaining space anticipated to house Sound2Summit, a tap room of the Snohomish-based brewery. Parcel A8, Fisherman’s Harbor area, will also have two new buildings, one to house the new Asian-inspired Fisherman Jack’s restaurant and the South Fork Bakery. The other building, Parcel A17, located west of Hotel Indigo, will house offices for Bellingham Yachts, Freedom Boat Club, and Waterline Boats. Businesses are expected to open in 2022-2023. Timber-themed building designs will pay homage to the site’s historic mill town roots, which will be constructed by Redmond-based Kassel & Associates. Other features of the Millwright District include the Timberman Trails, consisting of four connecting courtyards and a “living street” to provide event space and pop-up markets. The Developer, Schuster Group, is on a fast track to deliver at least one building per year for full build out within five years.
Everett is conveniently located just 22 miles from Seattle (Shilshole and the Ship Canal buoy) and 45 miles from Anacortes, the gateway to the San Juan Islands. Consider an overnight stay and explore all that the Port of Everett has to offer. The side-tie moorage is easy and they often have guest moorage space where other marinas along the way are full during the busy summer months. In addition to a selection of restaurants, wine tasting rooms and breweries, the marina offers two good chandleries, Harbor Marine and West Marine, just a short walk from the guest slips.
