Waypoint Correction Near Minor Island

August 20, 2003. Waypoint 376, p. 47, longitude should read 122° 48.55' W. The longitude listed in the book is in open water and is safe, but the intent was to place the waypoint close to Minor Island.

Bellingham Channel Buoy Item Correction

March 20, 2003. This web site's March 7 item about Bellingham Channel Lighted Bell Buoy 4 being removed from service was in error and should be disregarded. The error came from a misreading of the Notices to Mariners listing, which had to do with a chart correction only, not with the buoy itself. The buoy is still there, on station, operating as it should.

Waypoint for Fox Island Bridge

March 6, 2003. Weatherly Waypoint Guide Vol. 1 users may wish to add this Hale Passage waypoint for the center span of the bridge to Fox Island: 47°16.65'N/122°38.90'W, NAD 83. These coordinates were taken from our GPS as we passed under the middle of the span. They may be off a little, but they're probably pretty close.

Weatherly Waypoint Guide Recall

December 11, 2002. Robert Hale, author and publisher of the popular Weatherly Waypoint Guide, Vol. 1, 2nd Edition, has recalled all outstanding copies of that book, and will replace them with a new printing in early January.

“We hurried the 2nd edition into print because the market was screaming for it, and some inconsistencies got in that shouldn’t be there,” Hale said. “Robert Hale & Co. and our publishing arm Weatherly Press are known for quality work. This book didn’t meet our standards, and we’re going to make it right.”

Most of the inconsistencies are small but annoying. The same waypoint will have slightly different coordinates on different pages, or be shown in a slightly different location on two of the book’s locator maps. In one case, the waypoint for the north entrance to the Shilshole marina was positioned on the map, but not listed with coordinates. “They aren’t huge inconsistencies, and we could live with one or two of them. But not more,” said Hale.

To receive a replacement copy, owners should cut off the top of the front cover, where “2nd Edition” is prominently displayed, and send it together with their name and mailing address to Robert Hale & Co. Inc., 1803 - 132nd Ave. NE, #4, Bellevue, WA 98005. A replacement copy will be sent by return mail.

Hale also will have replacement copies at the Seattle Boat Show, and can trade them for the top part of the covers at the Robert Hale & Co. booth, #707.

“There are three Weatherly Waypoint Guide volumes,” Hale points out. “This is the orange cover--bright orange.”
