ob, I thought of you many times during my circumnavigation of Vancouver Island. When I told you I was planning it, you said: "Buy all the charts. ALL the charts." Well, it cost me a small fortune, but I was very, very glad I took your advice. I would never have believed you could get within a few hundred yards of a harbor like Sea Otter Cove and still not be able to see the way in.
I'd had a long, hard day, having left Bull Harbour shortly after dawn. It was getting late and I was tired and irritable. But with the aid of the GPS and a large-scale chart, I finally made sense of the mass of islands and headlands, and found that narrow little entrance. And what bliss to discover that wonderful sheltered harbor inside, absolutely empty. What joy to tie up to one of those mooring buoys, kick back, and pour myself a good stiff beer. Only a sailor would understand.
