The Pacific Northwest is known for its local produce and cheese, naturally raised meats and fresh fish. There is no better way to sample its bounty than at a farmers market. Thankfully, for boaters, many are within walking distance or a short taxi ride from marinas, which makes filling the fridge with local goodies much easier.

Mayne Island Farmers Market (Miners Bay)**

Located on the grounds of the Agricultural Hall, the market also has arts and crafts, food vendors and live music. The Mayne Island Farmers Market is open Saturdays, May through Thanksgiving weekend (Canadian), from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It’s a six-minute walk from the Miners Bay Public Wharf.

Salt Spring Farmers Market (Ganges)**

Ganges has two markets, and both are held at Centennial Park at Grace Point. The most famous is the Salt Spring Saturday market, which also has internationally acclaimed arts and crafts, clothing, pottery and more. The second is the Salt Spring Tuesday Market, which is all about local produce, flowers, and homemade food. The Saturday market, is April through the end of October, from  9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Tuesday market, is June through the end of October, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. It’s a ten-minute walk from Saltspring  Marina (they also offer complimentary taxi service), a five-minute walk from Ganges Marina, and a three-minute walk from the Kanaka Wharf.

Telegraph Harbour Farmers Market (Thetis Island)**

Located at Telegraph Harbour Marina, the Thetis Island Market is on Sundays, May through September, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Nanaimo’s Original Farmers Market**

Nanaimo’s original farmers market is located at the Pioneer Waterfront Plaza beside the Bastion. The market also has artisan crafted products, special events, and food vendors. Nanaimo’s Original Farmers Market is Friday, May 5th to Oct 6th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is a short walk from the Nanaimo Port Authority.

Farmers Market at Gilles Bay

Located at the Gilles Bay ball field, the market also has food vendors. The Farmers Market at Gilles Bay is Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. From the Texada Boat Club, it is a fifteen-minute drive.

Located next to the restaurant at Squirrel Cove, the market also has live music crafts and art. The Squirrel Cove Sunday Market is in the summertime only, from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. It is a short walk from the dock at Squirrel Cove.

Manson’s Friday Market (Mansons Landing)

This year-round market is held at Manson’s Hall, and triples in size during the summer months with an outdoor market. The market also has fair-trade imports, local wares, and baked goodies. The Manson’s Friday Market is Fridays, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. It is about a 20-minute walk from the public dock.

Quadra Island Farmers Market (Quathiaski Cove)**

By the Credit Union, the market also has knitted goods, art, and live entertainment. The Quadra Island Farmers Market is open on Saturdays, May to September, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is a 7-minute walk from the Quadra Island Harbour Authority.

Pier Street Farmers Market (Campbell River)**

Held along the waterfront at Fisherman’s Wharf, the market also has arts, crafts, homemade wares, live music, and food vendors. The Pier Street Farmers Market is on Sundays, May through September, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The market is a short walk from the marina.

Queen Charlotte Farmers’ Market**

A year-round staple of the community, the market also has art, handcrafted wares, and gourmet food products. The Queen Charlotte Farmers’ Market is open Saturdays, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It’s an 11-minute walk from the harbour authority.

Sointula Farmers Market

At the end of the Info Center, the farmers market box, which usually carries veggies and herbs, is on the honors system. It’s an 18-minute walk from the harbour authority.
