This summer, boaters visiting Vancouver’s False Creek can pump out holding tanks free of charge at two city-owned marinas on the waterway. The service is offered as part of a city campaign to reduce high E. coli bacteria levels in the creek and English Bay. Pump-out stations at Burrard Civic Marina, under the Burrard Street Bridge, and at Heather Civic Marina, farther up the creek, have been free for marina tenants but $10 for other boaters. In Canada, it is illegal to dump sewage within three nautical miles of shore.
